Video Pitch

Video Inspirations & Ideas

The Vaccines - Post Break-up Sex

Not only has the band I am using been compared to this style of music, but the conventions of this video inspire me to include some of there features in my music video. The use of the different camera effects are important, and they have varied from different effects, these effects create a nostalgic look for the video and by using them, this is what I would like to achieve in my construction of a music video.

The Castells - Romance

Even though this is the band I am using, the video for this single, has inspired me to follow a certain brand campaign throughout, but not copying what is in the video, simply using the same techniques they have used to create the effect and look of the band, this contains a performance, which my video will not contain all the way through, but also follow a story line.

The Vaccines - Tiger Blood

Again in this next video for The Vaccines, they take a very similar approach as to what I would like to achieve in my video. The use of both performnce but also including the band, gave me the ideas for my video. Although the band are out in 2011, the use of camera techniques and the vintage look they put on there videos is what I am willing to achieve with mine, and its fits into my song and my band, just like this fits into The Vaccines.

Other Inspirations

I have many other inspirations for my music video, not only do they come from the music I listen to, so indie Rock and roll. But many other things such the economic state of living and look, which in the modern day are looked back at in a black and white look of an old era, including Old buildings, vintage style and many other things within the late 1900's, this gives me a lot of inspiration to try and recreate that effect, but it also links into the band comparisons and sounds.

Brand Identity

The brand identity between my music video, digipack and music magazine advert, all link in together as one. The brand identity throughout all three follow the same colours of a nostalgic look. The old nostalgic look is shown through the pictures, text and videos.

Using a colour scheme of greyscale, and also black and white. All fit into the sound, and the look of the band. By choosing this, i have followed my research of other bands, such as kings of leon, who in there album 'Come Around Sundown' followed a brand identity, All three, followed the title of the album, by doing this they had pictures of a sundown effect, and the videos were timed at sundown, and they all followed the same colour scheme.

Audience Profile

This shows the audience that I am aiming my music video, digipack and advert at. People who are into music festivals and independant music. They listen to an indie/rock genre of music. The typical audience would take into account thier fashion, wearing for example skinny jeans and a leather jacket. Their fashion is mostly taken from the music that they listen to. My target audience are likely to takeinterest in music magazines such as NME and Q, but are likely to read reviews of a range of albums in which they might be interested in listening to. Following recent news stories around music and famous musicians. They may even play an instrument and create music themselves, therefore these types of bands could be an inspration for them, thereofre they are likely to watch this music video.

Artist Information

The Castells are an Indie Rock four piece from Durham, 2011 has been a year which saw The Castells given a chance to play at Maide Vale Studios for Fearne Cotton. They have also released single 'Romance'  on Tape Club records and are about to release secong single 'Young Lovers' on December 5th 2011. The sound has been compared to the likes of The National and Editors.

Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/thecastells

The band I have chosen had a soundcloud page in which they would upload thier music to, gain fans and get feedback. This page is an important indicator of the popularity of the band and the sort of people who are interested in thier music.

Facebook is a great way to see who the bands fans are, how many of them they are and what other artists they are interested in. It shows us what other bands they like, if they like certain tracks or videos. They can also give feedback to the band and find out about upcoming shows, so its useful as it gives us an insight to what the audience think about the band.

Copy Of Permission Letter

Dear Copyright Holder,

I am an A Level student and I am writing to request your permission to use one track by The Castells entitled 'The Youth' With your permission, this track would be used in my current A Level Media Studies project that involves creating a music video for a popular music track, as well as producing an album and a music magazine advert for the artist. If I recieved your permission, this track would ONLY be used in an educational context and viewed by my media class, my teacher and the OCR exam board moderator.

I had to write a permission letter to gain access to use the song as it may have been copyrighted, if so I would not of been able to put my video on youtube.

Music Video Analysis

This video shows my analysing a video, in which I wanted to have the same nostalgic feel in my video as they do in The Vaccines - Post Break-Up Sex.

Plans For Digipack

This picture shows a rough plan for the digipack cover I will be creating. It includes a big bold title once again, outlining who the band are and what the track is clearly.

The picture which is the main focus on the digipack, is a shot which will be included or similar to a one in the video. This outlines the band in a setting of the video, which all fits together, with the sound, name and lyrics of the song I have chosen.
The rough picture will picture the band, who will be featured in my video, this again is important becuase people who buy the digipack will get to see the look of the band and this is very important when people listen and buy music.

Below is a rough sketch of my Digipack back, this includes a picture of a bridge, which will be linked into the theme of the CD and music video.

The final piece will include general conventions of a digipack, so the use of a bar code, track listing, links with the whole album and others.

Plans For Magazine Advert

This is the plan for my music magazine advert. The text of 'The Castells' is big and bold, which is the same as the digipack. It gives a clear message and outlines who the band are, and what the single that they are releasing.

The picture in the centre of the advert is a clear picture of a setting, town biuldings in the modern society. This is a shot which will be in the video itself, and the setting of the video, in a high built up town, but an old look town. Doing the video in a nostaglic setting fits into the band and thier sound being described as late 80's to 90's.

The advert does not have any colour as of yet because the colour will be black and white, and greyscale. This again will fit into the video and the whole campaign of the digipack and the band themselves.

I have put into the advert the general conventions in which you would usually see in most music magazine adverts, such as the release date of the single, artist website and the record label. Others may include reviews of the single as well.

Storyboard

These photos show my storyboard in order of what the shots will be like. These shots will be taken in the setting of a town.
